Advocacy

The dictionary defines advocacy as

“the act of pleading for, supporting, or recommending; active espousal”

I prefer to use the following definition

Advocacy is the application of messages and influence on the people and institutions that have the power to give you what you want. – Fresina

Whatever definition you use, school counselors must do a better job advocating for our profession.  We are relentless when it comes to advocating for our students, yet when it comes to advocating for ourselves, we do a less then stellar job.

Here are some materials that I have used over the years to advocate for the school counseling profession that might be of interest and helpful in your advocacy efforts.
